MADELAINE HOLT

Principal

Madelaine has over a decade of experience working exclusively in competition and consumer law at world-class regulators. As a former Director of the Enforcement, Product Safety and Infrastructure Divisions at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and as the former head of the Tasmanian ACCC office, Madelaine brings a wealth of experience she can share with regulatory agencies.

Madelaine has a deep understanding of regulatory craft and offers strategic and innovative advice to local, state and federal government agencies regarding regulatory capability uplift. This includes the full suite of processes and practices to achieve consistent, effective and efficient regulatory practices and enforcement outcomes.

Further, given her extensive experience in competition and consumer law, Madelaine is well-placed to assist lawyers and businesses to effectively engage with the ACCC, including responding to information requests, providing submissions and applying for authorisation.

During her time at the ACCC, Madelaine led complex and high-profile investigations and litigation into individuals and businesses, including ASX-listed companies, for alleged contraventions of Australia’s competition and consumer laws. Since establishing Holt Advisory, Madelaine has acted as a trusted advisor to a Commonwealth agency enhancing its regulation and investigation capabilities. Madelaine has also advised national and local businesses regarding their engagement with the ACCC regarding investigations, authorisation processes, responses to statutory notices, and the negotiation of court-enforceable undertakings. Additionally, Madelaine has developed compliance programs and delivered tailored training for national retailers, ensuring compliance with competition and consumer law obligations.

Madelaine is committed to education of the next generation of lawyers, having lectured at the University of Tasmania and educated investigators in best-practice investigation strategy and technique.
